In the past few years Jabal Mohsen and Bab El Tebeneh were exposed to a lot of social problems because of political conflicts. These conflicts led to a decrease in youth activities in the area. Youth between 14 and 25 years had no activities to devote themselves, in addition to the individual conflicts that these areas were witnessing and the intolerance of youth. This required creating places and opportunities for youth where they can express themselves through arts. This situation needed to open opportunities of social cohesion and activities that bring people together. That’s why Nagham Choir was created. Music practice can be a very important factor to help bring attitudes and values such as respect and tolerance, creating common spaces of coexistence and inclusion, promoting the social development of individuals in abnormal situations, foster new channels of communication, sense of belonging and individual ad social well-being. Our vision is to recreate social network and social connection between youth and residents of Jabal Mohsen and Bab EL Tebeneh through collective singing: choral practice has been an important social intervention tool in many community contexts.
